Our Mission and Approach to Grantmaking
Our Mission
Our Mission
Commonwealth Children's Fund is a systems-focused philanthropic initiative whose mission is to support the best possible start in life for Massachusetts' youngest children, ages 0-5, so that they can thrive throughout their lives.
Our Approach
Our Approach
Grounded in our belief that support for early childhood development represents the most critical and highly-leveraged investment our society can make, we focus our funding on strategies that strengthen multi-sector commitment to this crucial window of opportunity.
To that end, CCF works in collaboration with partners across the non-profit, advocacy, business, philanthropic, and public sectors.

Why Early Childhood Matters
Early childhood experiences, from birth to age 5, are foundational to a child’s lifelong development and wellbeing. Positive experiences during this period - such as nurturing relationships and safe environments - promote resilience, healthy development, and learning. These formative years influence a child’s future life outcomes, making investment in early childhood essential for building stronger communities and helping ensure equitable opportunities for all children.
